FILMING IN THE crowded streets and bazaars of Peshawar at 6 a.m. atop a rocking,

jerking van, vivid footage amid the diesel fumes, dust and madness.

THE WINDING ROAD through the Khyber Pass is now controlled by the Afridi tribe
of Pakistan. The Khyber is a classic Invasion route, having seen no less than oinc
major Invasions in the past twenty-five centuries.

Easier was the filming in
Darra, the famous - town
dedicated to gunmaking and
the Khyber Pass itself, where
we were invited into the
home of an Afridi chief and

allowed to film him and his .
. sons, all armed to the teeth.

We were not allowed to film
the Arwalpindi railway
Station, but amazingly, were
given permission to film
tanks and helicopters of the
Pakistani military.

Aurora Films will be
returning to Pakistan in
October to finish the balance
of filming before the film is
packaged and sold to net-
work buyers. The proposed
narrator is Jack Palance and
the film has theme music and
a song. blending con-
temporary rock and Pathan
tribal music.
