Dear Editor:

A headline in the Van-
couver Sun, June 16, is in my
opinion extremely
misleading. “Deep Nuclear
Waste ‘Safe’ Passes Com-
puter Testing.”

No non-hazardous way has
yet been found for the
disposal of the highly
dangerous’ radioactive
wastes produced - by. the
nuclear industry.

The headline above in-
dicates the contrary.
However if one reads with
care the bref article, one
finds that the above
Statement is the result of a
simulated experiment,
computer-tested, conducted
by scientists under the Fuel
Waste Management
Program. .

The plan is to put the
radioactive waste material
deep underground in
Canadian Shield rock for-
mations. Extremely strong
containers are to be used but
eventually corroding.

Without questioning the
sincerity of the scientists
involved, I would have more
confidence in the findings of
scientists completely,
detached from the Atomic
Energy Commission of
Canada.
