FINERTY North Shore Hyack Air Hawks came back from the losers side of the first annual Kitsilano Meralomas Christmas Tournament to knock off Hilstrom 45-39, and grab first place in the five team tourney. The Hawks, who were edged 40-36 um the second game by the same Hilstrom, were lead by guard Cathy Mills who turned in a strong performance all tourney and was rewarded by being named to the all-star team. Hyack moved to the second round by virtue of their 49-32 win over the host Meralomas, but then went down in the second, as they floundered around trying to find the right offensive plays that would find the loop. Working on a man to man defense also proved fruitless, which prompted Hawk coach, Tim Carpay to shift to the zone in game three. The move payed off as the Hawks trounced the Blues 47-33 to advance to the finals and the mght to a rematch with Hilstrom. Hilstrom were no match early as they found the Hawks zone defense impecable, while the Hyach team scored almost at will, The Kitsilano Tourney is what Hyach Air may call a warm-up to their own tournament in late January, on the North Shore.
