Lice ICBC wants the public to know about federal and provincial regula- tions governing the use of motorized scooters and similar recreational vehicles. Owners and prospective buyers should be aware of the penalties associated with oper- ating Motorized scooters on public roadways. According to the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act (MIVA), motorized scooters, motorized skateboards and related vehi- cles fall under the definition of a motor vehicle and therefore Complete Collision ise tho require registration, licence and insurance to be used on-road. To be used on B.C. roads, motor vehicles must meet the standards set out in the federal Motor Vehicle Safery Act (Canada) and the provincial MVA Regulations. Motorized scooters and motorized skateboards fail to meet provincial equipment safety standards including light- ing, braking and seating requirements. Because these types of motor vehicles do not meet Transport Canada or provincial safery standards, they cannot legally be operated on public roads.
