Alleged $125,000 bribe attempt

on West Van-Garibaldi Socred
candidate under investigation

THE RCMP commercial crime unit is investigating 2

report that West Vancouver-Garibaldi Social Credit can-

didate Dr. Rodney Glynn-Morris was offered a $125,000
e to drop out of the provincial election race.

‘It’s in the hands of the RCMP
now so I really can’t say very
much about it,’’ Glynn-Morris
said Tuesday.

Glynn-Morris reported the bribe
attempt on Sunday.

While he declined to name the
person who he said had made the
bribe offer, Glynn-Moriis said ne
has known that person for 10
years.

Vancouver-Garibaldi, Under
Social Credit party regulations, if
an election is not called one year
after a candidate is initiaiiy
nominated, a reconfirmation
meeting must be held.

Glynn Morris took 278 out of
296 votes cast at Monday's
meeting.

He also took exception to
comments from West Van-
couver-Garibaldi Liberal candidate
David Mitchell that the bribery
report may have been a hoax
perpetrated by Glynn-Morris to
capture votes at the reconfirma-
tion meeting.

candidate Brian Giles said the
alleged bribery attempt is another
example of the scandals hitting the
Social Credit election campaign.

“T think what ihe scandal shows
is the problem with ethics the
Socred campaign is having. I
think it shows why we can't have
five more years of a Socred gov-
ernment and why it’s time for a
change,”’ said Giles.
