A spokesman for the West Vancouver Fire Department said the 5 a.m. blaze started accidently. Man jailed for driving infraction A 23-YEAR-OLD Burnaby man was sentenced June 28 in West Vancouver provincial court to 30 days in jail ard fined $1,000. Perry Benka was found guilty of driving while prohibited from doing so in connection with a Jan. 11 incident on the Trans Canada Highway. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, Benka also had his driver’s licence suspended for one year. NV man gets jail sentence A 40-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced July 11 to five days in jail for driving while his licence was suspended. Appearing before Judge R.D. Grandison, Manfred Heinz Eck pleaded guilty in North Vancouver provincial court to driving on East 3rd in North Vancouver while he was prohibited from doing so, Stores accept 6-pack holders PLASTIC SIX-PACK holders can now be returned to liquor stores throughout B.C. Used to secure six-packs of canned beer or soft drinks, the holders are considered a threat to land and sea animals if im- properly discarded. Working in cooperation with B.C. brewers, the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch says all LDB outlets will accept the hoiders regardless of origin. There is no deposit or return involved. The holders will be stored pending development of a recycling program. WEST VANCOUVER District Council agreed, Monday, to waive the building permit fees and de- velopment cost charges for the Kiwanis Seniors Housing Society's proposed 73 unit senior rental res- idence. “Council is trying to support housing for seniors in need,"” said Ald. Mark Sager. But a number of other pro- posals for seniors residences in single-family neighborhoods, which required rezoning, have been rejected by council in the past few years. Anthony Shayne Menard pleaded guilty in North Vancouver provincial court to violating his probation following a Nov. 5, 1989 incident in North Vancouver when he used non-prescription drugs.
