She has also held a number of other adminstrative positions in her field, and was nominated in the category of Health and Educa- tion. AS personal vice-president, banking, with the Hongkong Bank of Canada, Bruna Giacomazzi (Management and the Professions) has become the senior woman banker in the country. See Locals tion Award, The award, in its seventh year, will be presented on May 31 in seven different categories: Arts and Culture; Communications and Public Affairs; Community and Humanitarian Service; En- trepreneur/Innovator; Health and Education; Management and the Professions; and Sports, Recre- ation and Fitness. Thirteen women living on the North Shore have been nominated for the prestigious award. Anne Macdonald, nominated in both the Arts and Culture and Community and Humanitarian Service categories, has worked to promote community arts since 1969. Among other achievements, Macdonald was responsible for the founding of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council and the creation of Presentation House. North Shore News columnist Joy Metcalfe (Communications and Public Affairs) has been a popular newspaper columnist and radio broadcaster for many years. She gives of her time to help with charities such as Unicef, the Varie- ty Club, Ronald McDonald House, the CKNW Orphan's Fund and B.C. Lions Society Telethons, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Mel Jr. and Marty Zajac Foundation. Mobina Jaffer (Community and Humanitarian Services), B.C.’s first East Indian woman lawyer, has served as president of both the West Coast Women’s Network and the B.C. Women’s Liberal Com- mission. She was founding president of the Immigrant and Visible Minori- ty Women of B.C. and is recently working with refugees in the Sanc- tuary Movement and helping bat- tered women in El Salvador. Lawyer Shamin Lalani (Com- munity and Humanitarian Ser- vices) is highly involved with the United Way of the Lower Mainland and is currently second vice-president of the organization. She is also a director of United Way/Centraide Canada, the na- tional organization providing sup- port services in 121 Canadian United Ways, and gives her time to the Aga Khan Foundation, Canada. Adopted herself at the age of 16 months, Joan Vanstone in 1974 co-founded the non-profit group Parent Finders, which seeks to reunite adopted children and their birth parents. She has been instrumental in more than 5,000 reunions across Canada and personally involved in approximately 800 reunions, many occurring in B.C. Vanstone was nominated in the caiegory of Community and Humanitarian Services. Nancy Stibbard (Entrepreneur/ Innovator) boasts a list of ac- complishmients that includes in- creasing gate admissions to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park by 105 per cent since she first took over the attraction in 1983. Her commitment to advancing tourism in the province has resulted in her membership on six tourism boards and the establish- ment of two annual scholarships for tourism students at Capilano College. Madge Wiesman's cureer in physiotherapy involves health care adininstration, research, education and establishing two new branches of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
