Conway believes that theatre
should take risks, as should actors.
“A play should not be afraid to
deal with taboo subjects. As an ac-
tar, I like to shock people out of
their seats.” He even has a name
for his brand of acting; ““Com-
mando Theatre,’” where you “get

in, tell the truth and get out.””
Conway’s introduction to
theatre began somewhat late in
life. He explains that his acting ca-
reer got off to a dubious start:
“We were doing the student-
directed play Metaphors at the
Carnegie Centre but there was no
audience. It was during the Grey
Cup and general strike of 1983.”
Since then he has been cast as

the mild-mannered Constable
Fernley in the Beachcombers and
as a juvenile delinquent in Pink
ink’s Class Enemy. In Green
Thumb’s Mirror Game, Conway
played a woman abuser.

In his latest venture, Dali Bun-
dy-Play, Conway will cast himself
as serial murderer Ted Bundy,
who died on the same day as
famed surreal artist Salvador Dali.
