She announced that the centre has inst been given a two-year grant under the federal govern- ment’s Seniors’ Independence Program. This will enable the cen- tre to uemonstrate a model of ef- fective delivery of legal services to seniors. These services include legal in- formation and advocacy, legal lec- tures and income tax assistance. named The project will also identify and document instances of elder abuse and develop a program of education around this serious issue, As Clague said, ‘“‘There are the obvious good personal and prac- tical reasons for volunteering, but it is also an act of citizenship, of reaching beyond family and friends to assist those in need.’’ Volunteering is the experience of caring, a part of citizenship, an education for new Canadians as well as for those born here.
