WV woman jailed on theft charges A 43-YEAR-OLD West Vancouver woman was sentenced Feb. 27 to one day in jail and placed on probation for one year after she pleaded guilty to two theft-related chazges. Joyce Matthews was originally charged with theft in connection with incidents that occurred between Sept. 10 and Oct. 5, 1988 in which money was stolen from the District of West Vancouver. She was also charged with possession of stolen property in con- nection with an Oct. 5, 1988 seizure of a gold chain. In addition to the jail sentence, Matthews was ordered to per- form 200 hours of community work service and pay compensation of $28.25. Mian jailed for driving, mischief A 22-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced Tuesday in North Vancouver provincial court to jail terms of 10, 15 and 90 days after he pleaded guilty to six criminal charges ranging from Gangerous driving to mischief. Donald Vincent McDiarmid wes originally charged with im- paired driving, failing to provide a breath sample, dangerous driv- ing, and driving while prohibited in connection with Dec. 11, 1988 incidents on West Third Strect in North Vancouver. He wes further charged with mischief and assault in connection with Aug. 13, 1988 Incidents in which the contents of an apartment im the 100-block of West Fourth Street were damaged and a female assaulied. Appearing before Judge J.D. Layton, McDiarmid pleaded guilty to all six charges. He was sentenced to 15-day jat! terms on each of the first four charges and bad his driver's cence suspended for three years. The jail terms will be served concurrently. McDiarmid was also sentenced to 2 S0-day jail term on the mischief charge, a 10-day term on the assault charge, placed on probation for 18 months end ordered to pay restitution of $850 to Ce female victim.
