MAaAILBOox Closure of park access is a ‘poorly thought out decision’ OPEN LETTER TO VANCOUVER PARKS BOARD This letter is to strongly protest your closure of Stanley Park to residents of the North Shore. This is a very poorly thought out decision on your part. Let me list some of the points you have ap- parently not considered: 1) The dozens of North Shore residents who use the park facilities after work whether for jogging or walk- ing the seawall are now shut off. 2) Tourism: will be our number one industry — you should know, you are in the business. Yet all those tourists who want to visit the park for the day and complete their tour either by continuing on to catch the Horseshoe Bay ferries or to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge or Grouse Mountain or simply to shop at Park Royal or any other North Shore store are now totally discouraged from doing so by your plan. STANLEY PARK Closure means Think about it. Would you consider continuing on to the North Shore if you were a tourist and knew you had to double back into God knows where to get back on to the Lions Gate Bridge? Of course not. A simpler solution to your overkill would be a closure of Pipeline Road at the Children’s Zoo park- ing lot. Visitors leaving the Children’s Zoo simply would return south on Pipeline and exit the park or re-enter at the Rowing Club and continue their trip. The speeders are very discouraged from taking the alternate routes to the North Shore via the zoo area because of normal heavy congestion or around the totem poles as their purpose of shortcutting is defeated. A combination of well thought out traffic routing coupled with continuing diligent use of radar will easily resolve this matter. David G. Verchere Vancouver inconvenience OPEN LETTER TO VAN- COUVER PARKS BOARD the the the the I am against the closing of Stanley Park entrance from Lions Gate Bridge road in mornings and the park exit on Lions Gate Bridge road in the evenings for the following reasons. Some mornings 1 drive through the park to work. Sometimes 1 stop at Prospect Point or the Teahouse or Cepperly Park; ! always stop for five to 10 minutes. By closing the Lions Gate entrance in the mornings you will be stopp- ing me from using the park. In the evening I enter the park from Beach Avenue. Sometimes 1 stop at Lost Lagoon or the Rose Garden or walk among the trees for a few minutes. I always stop somewhere (to enjoy our park. Closing the park exit on to the Lions Gate Bridge will stop me us- ing this park; surely this is not your intention. I have one suggestion to make: a tot of cars enter the park fron Georgia Street and drive via Pipeline Road on to the Lions Gate Bridge. By closing the en- trance at the roundabout to the Pipeline Road ONLY, the cars us- ing the park as a shortcut would be eliminated but not the true park users. Macfred H.
