Otters splash to swim meet success

THE WEST Vancouver Otters
Swim Club swam to success at the
recent Hyack invitational swim
meet in New Westminster.

The club was most successful in
the backstroke, where the Otters
took nine places in championship
and consolation finals.

In the championship _ finals,
silver second-place medals were
won by Peter Marshall, in the 10-
and-under boys’ 50 and 100-metre
backstroke and Kathryn Peilatt in
the 15 and over girls’ 100-metre
backstroke.

Pellatt also came fourth in the

LOCAL TENNIS ace Grant Con-
wel has hired 42-year-old touring
pro Pierre Lamarche as his full-
time coach.

Lamarche decides this week who
will play singles along with An-
drew Sznajder in Canada’s Davis
Cup ties.

Caroline Watt, who came second
in the 11-12 girls’ 100-metre
backstroke; Alexandra Howard,
who placed second in the 13-14
girls’ 100-metre backstroke; Tara
McKay, third in the 13-14 girls’
100-metre backstroke, and fourth
in the 200-metre backstroke; Claire
Matthews, who plzced fifth in the
15 and over girls’ 100-metre
backstroke.

In the championship finals,
Marshell took fifth place in the
10-and-under boys’ 100-metre
freestyle and seventh in the 50-
metre freestyle, while Adrian

finished fifth in the
100-metre breaststroke.

Watt, meanwhile, came sixth in
the 11-12 girls’ 100-metre fly, sixth
in the 200-metre fly and eighth in
the 400-metre individual medley.
Pellatt came sixth in the 200-metre
individual medley and Matthews,

sixth in the 200-metre breaststroke.

In the Consolation finals, winn-
ing Otters included Kirsten
Taberner, Deborah Watt, Caroline
Watt, Howard, and Pellatt.

Otters swimming best ever times
were Stephen Roks and Sara
Stephenson.

Matthews leaves for the Cana-
dian National swim meet in Mon-
treal this month where she will
compete in the 200 and 400-metre
individual medley events.
