and intravenous drug users, to
heterosexual men and women.

decreased slightly during the past

AIDS in B.C. was reported, in
1983, the number of new cases

reported each year has increased
significantly. By Nov. 10, 1988,
the total was 446 — one quarter of
the total number of cases in
Canada.

Between 1985 and 1988, almost
66,000 people in B.C. have volun-
tarily undergone testing for AIDS

the end of December 1987, health
care professionals estimated that
between 6,000 and 10,000 people
were infected with the AIDS virus.

Research suggests that at least 50
per cent of people who test positive
for the AIDS virus will eventually

healthy, and will have no reason to
suspect that they are harboring the
