A sure standout this year
for school is the pleated
skirt. Neat, easy and
comfortable, worn with a
soft lace-trimmed blouse.
Another option is the full
dirndi that ends a couple of
inches above the ankle.
Match your skirts with
textured hose and low-
heeled pumps or tassel
loafers. The effect is young,
dashing, and terrific!

As for pants — try plaids,
baggies, cord, flannel, and
always, jeans. There’s a
different cut to pants and a

lot of change has to do with

length. Shorter-cropped,
ankle baring, often cuffed,
like knickers over woolly
ribbed tights, the look works
like never before.

Low heeled shoes are
suddenly right with
everything. The ballet
slipper flat, the  tasseled
loafer .... with knitted tights,
patterned knee socks, ribbed
leggings, there’s no doubt
about it: The fresh viewpoint
for fall centres on low-
heeled shoes and textured
hose.

As the. weather gets
cooler, there are smail
touches that make all the
difference. Scarves of every
size are hitting the scene. A
lace collar is a great way to
add versatility to a classic
crew-neck sweater. Wool
toque and scarf sets are back
along with wool berets. Fora
splash of colour wear knit
gloves with new sweaters.
Complete the preppy look
with circle pins and pearls,
simulated or real.

A super carry-all_ for
schoolbooks is a square
shoulder bag of thick
leather. Try one that
resembles a saddlebag or
schoolbag. Another bag to
look for is one of
polyurethane. Looks like
glazed leather but costs
considerably less.

Being a student does mean
a limited budget, not always
allowing for an extensive
buying spree. Before buying,
evaluate your wardrobe and
decide what picces are
needed to compliment what
you already have.
