When fleeing abusive rela- tionships, the women who seek shelter at the transition house don’t always pack a bag. “When they leave their home, they usually come out without anything,” says Maureen Gabriel, executive director of North Shore Crisis Services Saciety. The society relies heavily on donations from the com- erauinity to operate the 18-bed transition house and associat- ed services that include a 24- hour crisis line and public education programs. West Vancouver's Ferry Building Gallery is helping out by collecting donations beneath its “gift tree.” All gifts placed beneath the tree will be given to North Shore Crisis Services Society and the temporary. residents of Emily Murphy House. Gifts should be appropri- ate for children and teenagers, babies and moms. Gift certiti- cates are also welcome. Cheque or cash donations will _ receive a tax-deductible receipt. : Gifts should be wrapped and labelled as to contents, and can be dropped off dur- ing gallery hours. The gallery is located at 1414 Argyle, open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Monda' gifts will be picked up for dis- THE following people recently appeared in North Vancouver court in connection with drinking and driving related offences: Otto Joseph Simon, 61, of North Vancouver, was fined &, S200 and ree guilty of impaired driving ene tribution on \ . Gabriel said the mor would be used to run two programs offered to Emily Murphy House residents: a cooperative play group for children traumatized by vio- lence and a parenting educa- tion group for mothers. oni IL LEY i ‘oes farther _. to: protect . : Lo you. ay , The-purchage_, of our Gold: Seal Plan o Includes. . oF, ‘ t : .
