N. Shore’s own jewel in the crown ONE NEEDN'T travel the world to find exotic accessories. By Layne Christensen Fashion Reporter A trip to Zulaika Accessories, upstairs at the Lonsdale Quay Market, unearths hand- made baubles and trinkets from around the world. Owner Jayni Pirani, whose family is in the tourism industry, uses her tourism contacts to sevk out unusual items. In her store, every shelf represents a dif- ferent country. There are erystal necklaces from Austria, sterling silver bracelets from Mexico, glass beaded chokers from the Czech Republic, sterling silver pendants embedded with semi-precious stones from Indonesia, and exotic wood barrettes from Costa Rica. A display of “tshowpiece’’ jewelry features a selection of 19th century antiques from Tn- dia including a headhunter’s trophy, priced at $1,800. “We'll probably end up giving that one to a museum,” says Pirani, adding that Zulaika’s comtemporary and replica pieces of jewelry are much more affordably priced.
