Aguirre, an affable Spaniard
from the Basque region of Spain,
already had two restaurants in
Surrey prior to his North Shore
acquisition. =. *

The Old Surrey Restaurant and
Valentine’s would be a big enough
chunk of the Lower Mainland res-
taurant trade for most
restaurateurs to chew upon during
a full service-industry career.

But Aguirre has a passion for old
houses, and Hamersley’s elegant
Lower Lonsdale digs are worthy of
more than a flirtatious dalliance
from an ardent heritage house
lover. -

For the past four years, the
former Emerald Park rest home
roused Forster's Country Restau-
rant at Emerald Park.

Fforster’s was the third restaurant
Operation to try its luck at the
former rest home, private hospital
and boarding house. .

’ - The Forster’s crew invested

~much time and effort in overhaul-
ing the lodge, but its bland meat-
and-potatoes menu struck a largely
incongruous note in the aristocrat-
ic surroundings of the Colonel's
iodge.
