Jeyaseelan named to world team LOCAL TENNIS ace Sonya Jeyaseelan has been named to the World Youth Cup Tennis team. Jeyaseelan, who recentiy turned 13, was selected for the Under-16 team by Tennis Canada. The team will tour Europe for the month of July. “Sonya is really thrilled about this,’’ said father and coach Reggie Jeyaseelan, “This will open up more doors for her. By the time she’s 14 she should be ready to play the Under-18’s at Wimbledon if she maintains her calibre of playing.” Jeyaseelan, who attends Upper Lynn elementary school, was the first Canadian to win the U.S. open single and doubles tourna- ment last year. She is ranked 37th among Canadian women, the youngest player to be seeded in the Canadian women’s ranking system, In September, Jeyaseelan travels with the World Youth Cup tennis team to Argentina.
