B3 - Wednesday, June 8, 1983 - North Shore News HE business |p| rs Fair, fast, frugal, flexible In order to continue to meet the criteria for the settlement of disputes the Better Business Bureau. of the Mainland of British Col- umbia is increasing its pool of volunteer arbitrators. In announcing this in- crease, Bryan Denham, Bureau. Executive Vice- President, said that arbitra- tion is a method of finalizing consumer complaints through an impartial §ar- bitrator selected from a pool of volunteers. These volunteers, from a_cross- section of the community, will be screened and must undertake a short com- prehensive, training course provided by the Better Business Bureau. The next course is scheduled for Saturday, June 25 in Van- couver. Denham said that the Bureau's arbitration service has added a new dimension to dispute resolution and a fair, impartial and quick set- uement for some of the more “tough-to-resolve” situa- tions. The arbitration hear- ings which this Bureau have heard have ranged from $40 to $20,000. The arbitration service is offered at no charge to business and consumers and is designed to be an alter- native to the courts. “Qur experience indicates that the program has achiev- ed wide acceptance from consumers and government agencies,” said Denham. Business is also enthusiastic. Over 20,000 firms have precommitted either con- tractually or in their warran- ties to Better Business Bureau arbitration throughout North America. The Bureau invites members of the business and consuming pubic to par- ticipate in this program. Individuals who wish to volunteer as arbitrators in this community service should contact: Bryan F.
