C10 - Wednesday, May 4, 1983 - North Shore News HB food GARLIC SOUP THERE’S BEEN A flurry of rummaging, around here, in what I loftily call “my recipe files.” That these “files” consist of clippings, scribbled scraps. of paper, cards that have escaped the alphabetical system entirely, and many books, doesn’t make it easy to locate any particular recipe. . But I kept seeing it, as I flipp;;ed through this and that, and it was one I kept saying I'd make some day, and never had. Finally it surfaced — actually, it was part of a blizzard of stuff that filled the air when I careless- ly opened an old loose-leaf. Scotch-tape dries out and lets go, and there were recipes all over the floor. But Jo’s Baked Garlic Soup” was amongst them. Why did I wait so long? It’s one of the best doggone soups I've ever made, and how it does enrich the surrounding air! It’s the kind you can make a meal of, and needs a big casserole, or some oven- proof vessel that can be covered tightly with foil. I don't think I missed that much. When the hour is up, lift the casserole out, uncover and stir in the cheeses, along with 1 cup of whipping cream Lid on, pot back into the oven for 15 minutes, and Keeps colds (and friends) at bay - then you're ready, soup bowl warmed, slabs of bread laid out, and butter.
