Van is aging faster THREE SENIOR CITIZENS over the age of 65 live in West Vancouver for every two who make their home in North Vancouver. This significant difference in the demographic makeup of the two North Shore communities was revealed in a recent survey by the Public Opinion Research Division of the North Shore News. A geographically balanced sample of 405 homes bet- ween Deep Cove = and Horseshoe Bay was asked: “How many persons over the age of 65 are in your household?” Overall on the North Shore 65 per cent of respondents said they had no senior citizens living with them, while 25 per cent had one or more persons over 65 in the household. Ten per cent either declined to answer or “didn't know”. Broken down by com- munities, 68 per cent of the North Van _ households polled contained no seniors, compared to 21 per cent with one or more semor citizen members. The corresponding figures in West Van were 59 per cent without seniors to 34 per cent with seniors. A similar pattern emerged with regard to the number of seniors in individual households. In North Van 10 per cent of the respondents said more than one senior lived there, compared to 15 per cent in West Van. The highest concentration of “senior” households on the North Shore is in Am- bleside where 42 per ceat of the households polled reported one or more seniors Gas station robbed in A GAS station attendant at the Marine Drive and 22nd Street Gulf station in West Vancouver was held up at knifepoint Monday evening by two men who robbed him of $425.
