THE B.C. Ferry Corp. |
has confirmed that the
first of three planned alu- |
minum cataniarans cur- \
rently under construction |
in North Vancouver is
over budget and behind |
schedule.

Last week BCL Ferries
spokesman Clay Suddaby
contimed pubhshed reporss |
stating the first vessel is now |
expected to cost S86 million
rather than its budgeted cost
of $74 million,

But othe corporation |
expects clear sailing when it
comes to buding the next
two ferries.

“We still anticipate being
able to complete the project
at an average of $74 million
per ship,” said Suddaby,
adding that cost overruns
should be limited in the
future because workers have
learned trom earlier mistakes.

A new Taunch date has
also been set by the corpora-
tion with the first vessel's
launch currently set for June
18. The announcement
comes on the heels of nvo
previous missed launch dates:
last December and January |
1998.

VANDALS broke into
Tom Clarke's car on
March 19 and caused
more than $900 dam-
age for nothing.

“We keep nothing in) our
cars whatsoever, oven the
insurance papers are fudden,
said a frustrated Clarke.

Clarke, 49, said it was the
second time his 1992 Acura
Integra das been a crime rar-
get.

The lacest iacident
occurred while his car was
parked in frent of his East-
Keith Road-area house during
the carly morning hours.

The crimes took place dur-
ing spring break. Clarke is
considering building a garage
to lock up his vehicles.

Const. Tom Seaman said car
break-ins and car thefts are on
the rise.
