12 - Friday. March 27, 1998 — North Shore News Astory in last Sunday's News highlighted the number of dogs running free on Wesi Vancouver's Ambleside beach: 47 in one hour were noted. Mosc of Ambleside's tidal stroll is off-limits to mutts and pure-breeds alike, not to mention all other W.V. beaches, playing fields etc. However, the eastern end of the beach and a portion of the grass above it is a puppy’s promised land — no leash- es required. But most dog owners say it ought to be OK to have dogs anywhere on the beach in winter. The win- ter/summer approach to leash laws is more of an issue in North Vancouver where some parks allow unleashed dogs in winter but require leashes in summer. Others are completely off-limits to dogs, while * others allew leashed dogs year round. A comunittee is currentiy considering whether the restrictions can be adjusted and made less confusing.
