B.C. gets a taxpayer group

Canada’s fast-growing taxpayers*
movement has added a B.C. branch.
The British Columbia Taxpayers’
Association (BCTA) was formally
launched Oct. 25 and will act as a
watchdog on government spending
and will fight for fiscal restraint and
democratic reforms.

The BCTA will be the fifth
provincial affiliate of the 85,000-
member Canadian Taxpayers’
Federation (CTF).

NABS celebrates Christmas

Vancouver's advertising industry
will be jingling its bells Dec. | at the
Westin Bayshore Hotel when the
western chapter of the National
Advertising Benevolent Society
hosts a cocktail reception.

The fun will begin at 3 p.m. and
will feature Christmas carol sing-
alongs, a no-host’ bar with hors
oeuvre, and many door prizes.

Retired lawyer wins new
role with lotteries

Retired West Vancouver lawyer Ivan
Tufts has been elected chairman of
the board of directors of the Seniors’
Lottery Association of B.C, and the
Seniors’ Funding Society of B.C.

Tufts has served on the Seniors’
board since 1991. He succeeds Bey
Machesney, who will remain on the
board as past chair.
