Jail for assault A 19-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was recently jailed 60 days in connection with a charge of assaulting a woman, Robert Hugh MacTavish pleaded not guilty to 2 charge of assault with a weapon, but Insteud, pleaded guilty to the lesser or included offence of assault. The charge stemmed from 2 July 24 incident in North Vancouver City. MacTavish also received 12 months’ probation. He is not to possess firearms, ammunition or ex- plosives for five years. The jail sentence is ‘‘concurrent to any sénience being served.” Judge Bilt Rodgers sentenced MacTavish in North Vancouver provincial court on Nov. 16. Meanwhile MacTavish was jailed 21 days on Nov, 8 in connection with a charge of assaulting a male. At the time of that court case, MacTavish was serving 21 days in jail fer assaulting North Vancouver RCMP Const. WVFD Chief Fire Preven- tion Officer Steve Sentes said the callers say they are raising money for the Vancouver Burn Unit. Said Sentes, “We are not involved in any phone solicitations.” Sentes said one resident was asked for $20. West Vancouver Police spokesman Jamie Gibson said residents should not give any personal information, especially credit card numbers or bank account numbers, to phone solicitors. Gibson suggests interested residents call back phone so- licitors after confirming the fundraiser is genuine.
