Club gets pitch

BY THIS summer, the North Van-
conver Horseshoe Fitchiag Club
should have a place Iccally to pitch
horseshoes, thanks to a new facili-
ty now in the works.

Started in January last year, the
club began with 24 members, but
has now grown to a present total
of 50 members and shows no signs
of stopping.

Lacking a local facility, the
horseshoe pitchers were forced to
go to Burnaby for their pastime.

But with the recent announcement
of provincial funding, the unused
swimming pool at Mahon Park
will soon be a horseshoe pitch fa-
cility.

“The club consists mostly of
seniors,’’ said North Vancouver-
Capilano MLA Angus Ree, who
joined in making the funding an-
nouncement recently.

“They have been planning this
since 1986 and are very eager to
proceed.’
