The Red Cross recom- mends: - a careful inspection of your craft for leaks and other forms of deterioration; a detailed inspection of your motor; ensuring that oars and paddles are not waterlogged or cracked; - checking for tears, buoyancy and fit of gov- ernment-approved life skilis for teens Teenagers looking for a volunteer work experience can get off to a good start this summer by taking the Youth Volunteer Training Workshops being offered by the North Shore Information and Volunteer Centre. Three workshops, all aim- ed at teaching teens some skills for volunteer jobs in summer playgrounds, day camps or recreation pro- grams, will be offered on three consecutive Thursdays starting May 30th from 7 - 9 p.m. Gerry Fitch, Recreation Coordinator, North Van- couver Recreation Commis- sion will focus on ‘‘Leader- ship Skills’ at the first workshop May 30. This will be followed on June 6 with: Session Two, ‘‘Volunteering with Handicapped People” with Jule Hopkins, Coor- dinator of Recreation for People with Special Needs with the Surrey Recreation Commission, as the leader. These first two workshops will be held at the Delbrook Community Cent;re, 600 West Queens, North Van- couver. June 13 is Session Three at the North Vancouver City Fire Hall, 165 East 13th St., and the firemen will give in- structions ia ‘‘Beginner’s First Aid’’. The cost is $5.00 for the three workshops.
