One crew did get in front of
a female sperm whale but the
gunner fired anyway, mis-
sing the Greenpeacers by
only a few feet and killing the
whale. Film of the episode
was aired on television
stations around the world.

The following summer saw
Vancouverites cheer the
departure of the Phyllis
Cormack and the 152-foot
ex-minesweeper James Bay
(Greenpeace VII). Assault
crews from the James Bay
twice confronted Soviet
whalers in the North Pacific.

Cheynes Beach Whaling
Station.

In 1978 the Peacock,
another ex-minesweeper,
harassed Soviet whalers in
the Pacific and the London-
trawler, did the same, to
Icelandic whalers and pirate
whalers in the Atlantic.

In the fall of 1978,
Greenpeace London again
dispatched the Rainbow
Warrior, this time against
sealers planning to kill grey
seals off the north of

pewter jewelry, posters and

autographed copies of books
on Greenpeace by Bob

Hunter and Rex Wyler.

Despite the nautical tone
of the booth, information and
discussions on land-based
Greenpeace operations (such
as anti-sealing, nuclear,
chemical spraying, etc.) will
be available to those inter-
ested.

Greenpeace is now a
definite part of Vancouver
and Vancouver’s link to the
