The GVRD's water committee approved spending S51 million to build the Capilano ozonation plant. The recommendation will be considered tor approval by the GVRD board next month. A North Vancouver District staff report recently concladed thar the ozonation plant, with a toral estimated cost of $87.6 million, is unnecessary, The staff report recommended that council members urge the GVRD's water committee to drop the ozone plant project in favor of tunnels benveen Capilano and the Seymour filtration: plant. Capilano trees would be saved and fewer rock-laden trucks would use Capilano Road in the tunnel plan, which uses chlorine instead of ozone.
