Construction starts surge

NATIONAL HOUSING
stirts jumped 3.9° in April
as single-family home starts
surged toa dé-emonth high,
reported Canada Morigape

Total starts reached a
seasonally adjusted annual
rate (SAAR) of 198,000
units, ap from a Mareh rate
of 149,200 units.

Starts of single-detached
dwellings rose 19.3% to
75.400 units (SAAR) in
April, froma tevel of 43,200
units in March.

Starts of multiple units
were reduced by 1.6%to
56,200 units (SAAR), com-
