A one-storey duplex like the one in which Edey and Lefort live would not be aliowed under cur- rent bylaws, because it was too long, council was told. Coun. Bill Bell said he hoped that all developers would at Jeast try to meet the concerns of their neighbors. Coun. John Braithwaite said it was ‘‘pretty difficult for council to make a decision’’ because single-family homes on the sites could be taller. Added Coun. Rod Clark, ‘‘Un- fortunately this is a neighborhood in change. What is proposed here is very much in keeping with the official community plan.’ He said he did not fecl he had enough information upon which to base a decision, and moved deferral of a vate on the zoning so that council staff vould consult the developer about possible ar- chitectural changes to make the duplexes more acceptable to the neighbors. Barbara Sharp said: **l would like to have an opportunity to make a reading of the residents to see if they would prefer a single-family dwelling or a duplex.’* Council voted in favor of defer- ring a decision on the duplex plan.
