shopping after work. The
chamber’s semi-annual Business
After Business marketplace allows
these businesspeople to meet the
people they may choose to buy
from when they become con-
sumers, said Ainsworth.

The next event, on Nov. 25, will
offer a broad selection of exhib-
itors, and will be the first market-
place to emphasize buying locally,
she explained.

“We are trying to encourage
people to participate in the focal
economy.””

A lot of people who live on
North Shore go downtown to
work and subsequently buy their
goods and services downtown as
well,

Bu, as Ainsworth pointed out,
by putting their money into the
North Shore, they may be able to
eventually work on the North
Shore as well.

“The economic base is the
employment base.’’

These factors, in turn, have an
effect on other services such as
transportation. A larger employ-
ment base offers a higher tax base
and eases the burden on taxpayers
for local transportation, parks,
and other services.
