Another piece that glides from day into evening wear is the sarong skirt. These skirts are draped, wrap- ped and slung low on the hips. With an air of the exotic, this body-skimming skirt is perfectly flattering in a vivid floral or a smoky pastel and is simply indis- pensable this spring. Variety is what pants are all about. Pacific Centre 681-3542 © S PRIN Many are light and airy, to ca- ress the body, not confine it. These pants, low-waisted and less struc- tured, fly and float on air. Wide pants co-exist with nar- row, long with short, catering to the needs of the wearer. They ali look right. Pleats once again show up in full force. Pair any of the new pant looks with a jacket, and you're teady for a night on the town. Designers Iet their own attitude prevail resulting in a barrage of color, florals, stripes and shine. Floral, particularly daisy pat- terns, plus blue and white stripes and chic dot prints show the charm of the season. Many collections reMect an casy yet traditional kind of attitude. Free-spirited sportswear is rein- forced, as comfortable pieces go dotty. Decorative details add personali- ty to classically-inspired designs. Yet ornamentation is reasonable — metallic embroidery, scalloping woven into necklines, hems and G collars, bright grosgrain ribbon trimmings, or simply a slash of bold, bright, modern color. Other strong influences this season include folklore motifs and Western and Indian details. The scarf is not just another ac- cessory this season. It is transformed into a sarong skirt, blouse, dress or belt. With the focus on the upper body, the possibilities are endless, when us- ing scarves at the neckline. Thankfully, length is no longer an issue, probably due to most women’s refusal to play musicai hemlines. The long and short of skirts coexist side by sidé. Move- ment and proportion are important instead. The shape of things to come is the pyramid. I¢ is a reversal of the past few seasons, which consisted of a fulier silhouette on the upper body, over slim pants and skirts. The pyramid comes in the form of swing dresses and width concen- trated at the ankles.
