The award ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 19, was attended by approximately 30 people, in- cluding city council members, Heritage Society representatives, Noort (Field) representatives, Heritage Advisory Committee members and other interested citi- zens. The ‘‘Vance Highlands’’ at 620 West 15th St. is a townhouse de- velopment which includes a restored heritage building of great community importance. This heritage building was the former estate home of George W. Vance who served as an Alderman and Mayor for the city between 1913 and 1925. When the City and District of North Vancouver fell into receivership, he was ap- pointed Commissioner in 1936 un- til his death in 1944. As Commis- sioner, Mr. Vance took the place of both municipal councils, The building itself was con- structed in 1910 and exhibits a blend of late Queen Anne and Co- lonial Revival features. Its design includes a gabled roof with fish- scale shingles, dentils, leaded glass windows and a large wrap-around veranda.
