BRIEF'S Dead man pulled from Indian Arm THE BODY of an elderly North Vancouver man was pulled from Indian Arm Tuesday morning. Ports Canada Police arrived on the scene after the coast guard picked up a mayday call. The man was subsequently located and air-lifted to St. Paul’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A port spokesman said investigators do not suspect fou! play in the death. An autopsy report is pending. The dead man has been identified as 74-year-old Duncan Ogilvie of Sunshine Bay. Vehicle inspection seminar set POLICE, MECHANICS and Motor Vehicle Branch repre- sentatives will be on hand Wednesday at a local seminar addressing the provincial safety drive campaign and private vehicle inspection. The seminar is set for 7 to 10 p.m., Feb. 21, at the Eagles Hall, 170 West Third St. in North Vancouver. Police have been stopping defective vehicles at roadside checks, Vehicies with multiple defects are ticketed. Motorists are ordered to have the vehicles inspected at a licensed garage and necessary repairs must be made within 30 days. Owners who ignore the order for inspection and repair face a $500 fine. Burn Awareness Week proclaimed NORTH SHORE mayors have officially proclaimed the week of Feb. 18 to Feb. 24 inclusive as Burn Awareness Week. The proclamation was made (o recognize the juint efforts of people involved in volunteer, professional and industrial fire prevention services and their concerted effort in protection against injuries and loss of life through the destructive effects of burns. THE WEST Vancouver Museum and Historical Society Exhibition will officially open on Tuesday night at the old ferry building site Iscated on the foot of 14th Street. Man jaiied A 45-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man was sentenced Feb. 9 in North Vancouver provincial court to three months in jail after he plead- ed guilty to a charge of theft under $1,000. Walter Joseph Mayfield was originally charged in connection with a Feb. 8 incident in which vanilla extract bottles were stolen from a Canada Safeway store.
