straight.

Taxes gencrated by development
are always self-consumed, other-
wise our taxes would have been
reduced years ago.

The iruth of the matter is that
sometody wants to line his
pockci:, and current governments
are sympzthetic — ‘‘in wealth we
trust.” Many of us see wealth as
the quality of life and the liveabili-
ty of our physical environment.

debate is a delaying tactic, council
is in for a big shock; the en-
vironmental issue is not going to
go away.

This stormy, local discussion is
part of a planetary outcry for sani-
ty, whether it comes from the Sa-
moans, the natives of the Amazon,
or the indigenous people of the
Stein Valley.

clamor for Lynn-Seymour?

An Israeli friend exclaimed:
‘‘What wouldn't we give in Israel
for all this water!’’

As children we picnicked just
north of Lyn:. suspension bridge
on warm Sundays with mother,
then later we camped near a green
pool on hot weekends. We roasted
potatoes and browned sausages
over a campfire, after a refreshing
swim.

Now, with less leisure and agili-

ty, we still take the dog for woodsy
rambles and quick dips.

Vancouver has parks galore,
such as Queen Elizabeth and
Stanley, for all time. North Van-
couver has to keep Lynn Canyon
Park as a permanent treasure with
sufficient legal safeguards to keep
it so.

No ‘‘keep out” signs!
