Last year was a good year with about 1,900 forest fires. “It’s impossible to predict the severity of the fire season but the public’s assistance in the early detection of forest fires will again be crucial this year,’’ the minister added. Parker said snowpack levels — a crucial factor in fire danger ratings — are below average in the Kamloops and Chetwynd areas, heavier than normal in the nor- thern part of the province and average elsewhere. The minister urged the public to report a forest fire as soon.as it is spotted by dialing ‘‘O’' and asking for Zenith S555.
