Running the 19-kilometre route from Central Park to New Westminster and back, tie Shufflers — racing along with 18 other rams had tc use a bed pan as a baton and clocked a finish in Racing in the fundraiser were Shufflers members including Steve Bennett, Sally de la Rue Browne, Patricia Pigott, Jean Thompson and Joan Watson. Last year the NSUBH team finished 16 in a field of 24 with a time of 1:34:07. The Cancer Control Agency of B.C.’s Sublethal Damage team won this year’s race in a time of 1:03:00. Approximately $5,500 worth of pledges fer the United Way and the YMCA was tallied at the end of the race. In a recent race, a flat tire meant that Mahood had to settle for fifth place. After a fast start, Mahood moved easily into second place, but an accident behind the leaders meant he picked up some debris on the next jap; a punctured tire spelled fading speed. The Jocal driver, his crew and race car #13 will be at the Lonsdale Avenue Lens and Shutter all day Oct. 1 for the store’s re-opening. Rat race entries accepted NORTH SHORE businesspeople tired of what they call the Rat Race can run out their frustrations in a fundraising event of the same name. The West Coast Rat Race — a 3%2-kilometre run through the fi- nancial and business district of downtown Vancouver — is now zecepling entries. Structured after similar events in Toronto and New York, the West Coast Rat Race has been revamped to suit Vancouver, and participants are required to wear business dress above the waist and carry a briefcase along the entire, course. Organizer B.C. Lions Seciety for Crippled Children hopes to round up 500 runners for the Oct. 19 event, which will start and finish at Robson Square. SPORTS Soccer Kokanees tie with Firemen NORTH SHORE Kokanee players got wet in the pouring rain in ac- tion against The Vancouver were: Firemen C, fighting their way to a 1-1 draw in Vancouver Metro Soc- ger Division 2 action last week. The Firemen opened the scoring from a quickly taken free kick, with Tod Hebert breaking through the back line and scoring in the 22nd minute. Kokanee could have clinched the game in the dying seconds, with a wild flurry in front of the Van- couver goal. Keeper Jeff Boyle, his teammates and the goalpost stop- ped five point-blank rocket drives before the referee’s whistle halted play.
