BIG LEAGUE showbiz opportunity has come hammering on the door of West Vancouver’s Lisa Jones. By TIMOTHY RENSHAW News Reporter The 18-year-old fashion model has just sent off a package of promotional material, including photographs and a video, to the heads of casting for the Bill Cosby Show in New York and Universal Television in Los Angeles. The material will be used to assess her suitability as a possibic character in the successful televi- sion show and other productions. Jones, who works at Van- couver’s Charles Stuart Model and Talent Agency, was original- ly approached by Cosby when the comedian was in town May 9 and 10 to perform .at the Expo theatre. STARDOM CALLS Cosby’s call, prompted by the comedian’s perusal of models’ photographs submitted to him by various Vancouver-area agencies, came out of the showbiz blue. Jones was temporarily dumb- founded, but the reality of the opportunity has begun to sink in. “Obviously, it (the part) is not something they are just going to hand me,’’ Jones said. ‘‘He’s not about to put me on the show just because I have a pretty face.”’ After initial contact from § Cosby, Jones and model Rosa Rites were given tickets to his opening night show and invited backstage. The following night, they were Cosby's dinner guests at Il Giardino. . Jones says the comedian § treated her and Rites as would any concerned father. ‘LOVES CHILDREN “*He struck meas a person § with a real love for children and a belief in the strength of the family as a unit. At dinner, he was genuinely concerned about us,’’ she says. ‘‘He would not allow us to drink, because we were under 19. And he even:call-'§ ed my parents to tell them when I'd be home.”” Jones: was raised in’ ‘Virginia and has lived on the North Shore for four years. Charles Stuart says Jones is more than a talented model. ‘She has a natural aptitude for acting. Some models have the § look. and that’s it, nothing else. Lisa has the look and the per- - sonality.’’ Acting © experience ‘for Jones -has been confined. thus far to in- volvement in high school produc- tions. She is currently enrolled i in ; ‘acting workshops. - Cosby, she says, had told her that today’s youth too often ex- pect things to be handed to them. § “He, wants people who are sincerely committed, sincerely in- terested,”’ she said. ‘‘And believe me, I am interested. me photo submitted OPENING June 13 at Presentation -House’ ‘will be an exhibit of .200 photographs from the Life Magazine archives..
