Sunday, February 17, 1991 - North Shore News - 5 North Van City moves to dedicate four new parks NORTH VANCOUVER City took the first step Feb. 11 towards dedicating four city parks when city council adopted various zoning and Official Community Plan (OCP) amendments. By Pamela Lang Contributing Writer City residents had voted in favor of dedicating all four areas in referendums held during the Nov. 17 municipal elections. Dedicating a park protects it from future development unless approved by the public. While future city councils can alter an area designated as a park through zoning and OCP amendments, any parks that have been dedicated cannot be touched without another referendum. A 1.1l-acre block of land at 23rd Street and Ridgeway Avenue was zoned as parkland, but its OCP designation was for single- family housing. A second area, adjacent to Loutet Park, at 18th Street and Williams Avenue, is 8.88 acres. The area was zoned for single- family residential, and the OCP stated its use as ‘to be determined by special study.’ With Monday’s adoption of zoning and OCP amendments, both areas are now zoned for park and designated for park under the OcP. Along with these two areas, the 17.22-acre Loutet Park at 14th Strect and Rufus Avenue and the 6.86-acre Eastview Park in the Cedar Village area at Rufus Drive Stats Can gearing up for census THE CENSUS area manager for North Vancouver was recently hired for the upcoming federal population census, which is set for June 4.
