9 — Sunday, April 16, 1989 ~- Lynn Valley Echo ; . 7 2 S 3 sk ~* : THERE WERE two winners, not just one, in last month’s Kids’ Corner Contest. Both Eau-Vive Roulleau, 10, and seven-year-old Andrew Stewart came up with so many words, using only the letters found in ‘‘newspaper,”’ that it was decided that both should win $15. Andrew found 200 words, but as judges couldn't find some of them in the dictionary, his total was whittled down to about 177. Eau-Vive started with 187, and ended up with’ approximately 174 for the same reason. ; ‘Honorable mention goes to 10-year-old Nina Greco, who” came up with 136 words, all correct. All of the contest entrants submitted many words that the judges hadn’t even heard of tefore, but were quite correct.. For instance, Sarah Pickerill and_others found ‘‘Erse’’, which is an Irish Gaelic language. Taryn Irwin was one of the people to find ‘‘peen,’’ which is the thin edge of a hammer top. And how many people know that a “parpen”’ is a type of stone in a wall? Everyone who entered the contest did a super job, and the judges at the Lynn Valley Echo thank them for taking the time to come up with all those words. JUDGES WERE amazed at the number of words that Lyon Valley children found in the word ‘‘newspaper"’ for last month's Kids’ Corner Contest. Winners were (left) Eau-Vive Roulleau, 10, who came up with 174 words — and 2 few more French ones — and seven-year-old Andrew Stewart (right) who found approxi- mately 177. Eau-Vive and Andrew each won $15, but congratulations go to alt the entrants in the contest, who came up with words that the judges hadt’t even heard of before.
