Van man appointed foundation’s director CHRIS PATRICK of North Van- couver has been appointed execu- tive director for the Outdoor Rec- teation Foundation of B.C. In announcing the appointment, foundation chairman Dan Culver said Patrick would bring solid fundraising and promotional skills to the foundation. Patrick, a UBC graduate, has a diverse background that includes experience in arts, socia! services and health agencies. He has served as administrator and director of public relations for David Y.H. Lui Productions Ltd. and as the manager of mar- keting and development for the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company. In addition, Patrick has served as the regional coordinator of fi- nancial resources for the Canadian Red Cross Society. His experience as the manager of the financial department for the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Greater Vancouver will be an asset to the recreation foundation. The Outdoor Recreation Foun- dation of B.C., established in 1985, strives to enhance recre- ational opportunities throughout the province through education, research and the management of environmental projects. GVRD honored for air work THE GREATER Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) has been honored for being ‘‘the mpst progressive and active air quality management group in Canada’’ by the Air and Waste Management Association. The association is an interna- tional organization with more than 10,000 members. The award was presented to the GVRD’s Air Quality and Source Control Department in recognition of its development of Canada’s first regional air management plan. The award also recognized ex- cellence in other areas, including ambient air monitoring, regional emission inventories and vehicle emission testing. NORTH VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL Council agreed to grant $35,000 in April for temporary youth ser- vices and programs to relieve the immediate problem. The youth workers successfully established oa preventive youth service for the neighborhood which is supported by the recre- ation commission and the RCMP.
