dwindling and only
one long-weekend to
see off the suramer,
many of you might
very well be planning
one last road trip
before steeling to the
drudgery of the
Vancouver rainy season
and the SADness of
daylight savings.

Beware.

There are more traffic
fatalities in the waning dog-
days than at any other time
ofthe year (Christmas-time
is second).

Statistically speaking,
summer — and especially the
Labor Day long weckend -—
is the most dangerous time
for motorists.

As you might surmise,
drinking-driving stats also
peak as the summer kicks
and sputters to its ultimate
demise, making way for the
soggy, lethargic, why-bother-
celebrating days of autumn
malaise.

With this foreknowledge,
it’s unlikely that those plan-
ning one last road trip are
going to cancel plans just
because some back page traf-
fic columnist warns of higher
potential for impending
doom.

So, all I can do is pass
along is a bit of road-trip
advice:

1. Don’t be a bonehead.
You’ve at least the newly-
acquired knowledge about
increased road risk, so don’t
multiply the hazards by
motoring about like a thick-
skulled road warrior.

Take your time. Reiss.
Enjoy the trip.

Getting there is half the
fun (getting home is about
05% of the fur, but $
some comfort in knowing
that you get home alive in
the end).

- 2. Dan’t drink and drive.
Remember, you are morz
likely to be hit by a drunk
driver in the sunny season
when the colle: enchant

motoring).
