FINDING the best person for
the job — West Vancouver
District council thinks it might
be worth looking into.

Council will examine the process that
automatically appoints the mayor as the
Greater Vancouver Regional District
(GVRD) representative.

Coun. Russ Fraser proposed the
motion at a recent council meeting. “I

just found out that there are other ways
of doing it,” said Fraser.

He said the process should be exam-
ined and possibly changed. He bases his
proposal on models taken from other
local municipalities,

sceret ballot and sometimes it rotates so |

method,” said Fraser. “And it went
through unanimously so everyone must
have agreed.”

Mayor Pat Boname currently holds
the GVRD position. It has always been

As a result: of Fraser’s motion,
Boname will remain in the position until
January 31, 1998, at which time council
will vote to continue with the current
appointment method or change it.

Boname appeared to agree. She said it
was important to provide “the best repre-
sentative for the community.”

The GVRD appointee is currently
responsible for representing West
Vancouver's interests at GVRD commit-
tee meetings,
