Shore resolutions get nod at weekend Socred convention WHILE HE did not agree with all the motions passed at the Oct. 11 to 13 Social Credit convention held at Vancouver’s Trade and Convention Centre, North Vancouver-Capilano MLA Angus Ree said he was pleas- ed with the event. **I think it’s a good convention. There’s a lot of good supporters, a lot of good grass-root supporters here,’’ Ree said Saturday at the con- vention. ‘There have been some motions and resolutions that I've voted against, but I’m not going to comment on them at the moment.”’ On Saturday, Socreds voted on four resolutions put forth by North Shore ridings. All were accepted. Perhaps the most contentious motion introduced by a North Shore riding came from the newly created North Vancouver-Lonsdale riding. North Vancouver District Mayor Marilyn Baker will represent the Socreds in the riding in the next provincial election. Directed towards the provincial ministry of health, it stated: “‘Whereas children in British Columbia are being prescribed mind- altering drugs such as Ritalin, which has significant side-effects, without the parents being informed of the side-effects and the warnings as published by drug manufacturers, be it resolved that parents in B.C. must be fully informed of any and all dangers and_ side-effects associated with any drug prescribed for their child prior to being asked to sign a consent form permitting the child to be put on such drugs.” —_ Two other motions introduced by the North Vancouver-Seymour a riding dealt with party membership and how convention delegates are Kee selected, while a second motion by the North Vancouver-Lonsdale pet riding, directed towards the finance ministry, called for property tax ; assessment procedures to be returned to civic governments. ongratulations Genevia Lam During this, the 1990 Science and Technology Week. the Province of British Columbia recognizes Genevia Lam for achieving excellence in science, and representing British Columbia at the 1990 Canada Wide Science Fair held in Windsor, Ontario. i e_L am Vander Zale, Bruce Strachan, Premier ot Bateh Columbus Minpter ot Advanced Education, Training and Techaolesy & mw Seen Comma Province ot ¢ Hansh Cdumbes Bosh Columbie P 1058 MARINE DR.
