Support comes in many forms

YOU know, we're
awfully lucky, you and 1,

Well, just to have sur-
vived, af course, because in
our lives there have been
wars and panics and disas-
ters, some of it our own
fault, some of it via Mother
Nature.

And now here we are,
heading down the last
stretch, hoping it will last,
that there'll be lots of curves
and vistas and interesting
encounters still ahead, We'd
also like to think we've left
something in place that will
contribute to someone's hap-
piness, someone's better-
ment, Hard to tell at this
range.

Certainly the condition of
old people like us is greatly
improved even over the
norm that was obtained by
our parents. My mother had
never seen, let alone experi-
enced, such a place as
Kiwanis Lynn Manor, or
enjoyed the work and fun at
a place like Silver Harbour
or.the Seniors’ Activity

Centre in West Vancouver,
Couldn't even have imag-
ined it.

So we have to think that
when it’s our turn to pack it
in and ask for help we'll not
find it difficult to fix ona
quiet comfortable place to
see us through the rest of the
way.

Meanwhile there are
diversions and aids to keep
us going, to keep us min-
gling and contributing —
without mingling and con-
tributing you're not doing
your share and besides, you
short-change yourself. Can’t

counselling as well as help
with your income tax.

There are a lot of places
where you can look for that
sort of help, in lawyers’
offices and those of char-
tered accountants. They cost
alot, that's all, and some-
times don’t quite make
themselves clear. So in the
spirit of adventure and seif-
improvement you can
plough the first row on your
own, and find out if you've
the strength and the interest
to continue.

Information Line at 983-
3303. The people who
answer the telephone have
knowledge of all sorts of
experts and will tell you the
best place or people to call
lo get help with which to
solve your queries,

Another place to go for
answers to a lot of your
questions is the local
Community Police offices.
Their walls are loaded with
information on everything
you can think of.

Until a week or so ago,
when I went to that meeting
at Kiwanis Manor, f had
never heard of the
Community Police, but the
man I sat next to is a volun-
teer at the Lynn Valley Mali
branch and told me some-
thing about it,

T went the following
week to see for myself, and
was astonished at the range
of information they dis-
played and the knowledge

they have of the community.

Well, sure, when you think

about it that's what their job
entails, ch? But they carry
pamphlets on everything,
and are tickled with your
interest. Dogs, youths, we
seniors, automobiles, locks
ind keys, maps of the North
Shore, there are pamphlets
on all of those and dozens
more.

I had seen the store-front
office they have on Lower
Lonsdale, on the east side,
just below Third Street, but I
passed it off as necessary
because of the number of
rough incidents occurring in
that part of the city.

Next time I go by I'll go
in. That particular office is
the chief one and they are
there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
