Abo spotted Grant Allen who heads up the busy Beacon Group, the group that’s bidding for the Bridge Studios. ft would be a faather in the provincial zovern- ment’s cap if they allaw Beacon to buy the site. The industry would regard it as 4 Smart move and certainly North Shore Film Studios would wel- come greater exposure for the B.C. film industry as a whole. My spies tell that there are at least two other high profile movie groups also in the running for the Bridge business... With high definition television only two years away from hitting the stores, everyone was delighted that one of the major players, Lee Stringer, was also at the party. Lee has an office in New York and at the North Shore Film Stu- dios. According to him, high definition TV is the really big coming thing and he’s already shooting events for it. One camera costs $500,000!... Other news out of the bash is that talented David Nielson has completed work on the PNE’s huge Challenger Relief Map. And he’s just been awarded the con- struction contract for the prestigious Thai exhibit for this month's fair which opens Aug. 18. David's currently the designer for B.C. Hydro’s Power Smart Renovation ’90 Show which will take place at the PNE at the end of September. The show will be built by Cannell Productions, who won the contract late last Friday afternoon. A couple of weekends ago the happy West Vanners ceiebrated ther 48th wedding anniversary and decided to mark the occasion by returning to where thei wedd- ed bliss and fong marriage began. Thes went up the mountain to search for their enchanted cottage. During their explorations, they couldn't get over the vast changes and the tremendous expansion in the skier’s paradise. And, of course, they couldn't find their honeymoon cottage at all! It was long gone! So they spent their anniversary in another spot close by, one with a few more creature comforts. They finally bedded down in the comfortable and luxurious sur- roundings of the posh Chateau Whistler! Dean still can't believe he’s been married that long. 45 years!... There’s anew promotion that’s been started to raise funds for Make A Wish. It’s called Jump for Charity and it’s specifically for first-time parachutists. And that’s exactly what Pat did last Saturday morn- ing out at Pitt Meadows. She jumped out of an airplane in tandem with an instructor from about 10,000 feet up! She raised pledges amounting to $300, of which, after the various expenses are paid, the remaining $100-plus goes to Make A Wish. It’s a new idea that's been or- ganized by Ches Dauphinee of North Vancouver and he hopes that the notion of taking a flying leap for charity will really appeal to those with a sense of adven- ture.
