Meicalfe SOY TELLS ALL AS NORTH Vancouver’s tall, dark and handsome ac- tor, Roger Barnes, dropped into his corner store last Tuesday night to pick up some groceries, a lady standing behind him was thumbing through a Chatelaine magazine. All of a sudden, she gave a laugh and said, ‘‘You certainly look different when you don’t feel well!"’ Roger didn’t know what she was talking about until she showee him a large ad in the glossy mag. And there was Roger, in full color, looking simply dreadful with a terrible nose-dripping cold! ft was a new commercial that Roger had just done for Scotties. He didn’t even know thai it was out. Everybody in the store im- mediately rushed over to pick up and purchase their own copy of Chatelaine and then had Roger autograph it. You may remember Roger. He played the father of a little boy in the Old Spice Christmas television commercials. And you'll see him again shortly in some new Power Smart commercials!... One of last week’s gala events was the marriage of pretty, blonde Wendy Lisogar, second daughter of hotelier Roy Lisegar and his former skating star wife, Lorrie, SPECIALIZING IN. e PURE SILKS * COTTONS ¢ WOOLENS * KNITS e VELVETS ¢ BRIDAL e GRADUATION FABRICS to her handsome best fellow, Sergio Cocchia, Saturday after- noon in West Vancouver's Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church. Wendy wore a sheath-style, floor-length wedding dress of heavily beaded, white French lace with a cathedral-length train of more than 10 feet! And Wendy is so tiny! Sergio is the son of Concettina and Pasquale Cocchia and it was Pasquale who began more than a year ago to make his photo of Sergio and Wendy on the label, while the talented Concettina made all of the six bridal atten- dants’ pink sitk dresses and hats as well as the tiny flower girl and ring bearers’ outfits, Tenor Steven Price sang Ave Maria while the harpist was Moira Van Nus. The reception was held at Roy's Century Plaza Hotel in their new- ly renovated ballroom with ~ . . ; we! Ye MEL ZAJAC... spotted at the Lisogar-Cocchia wedding. CBC-TV's Phil Reimer as a witty and charming emcee. CKNW’s Rick Honey gave a very touching toast to the bride, recalling a close-knit, loving immigrant fami- ly, a quality of family life we des- perately need now. Other notable guests at Wendy and Sergio’s wedding reception were the just-retired Vancouver police chief, Bob Stewart and his Variety International Ambassador wife Barbara; former hotelier, Met Zajac, who brought a message of congratulations to the newlyweds from his pal, Bob Hope, who was in Victoria; the newest realtor in town (can't keep up with his ca- reer changes!) John Pozer and CKLG account executive Naney Walls CKNW sports guy. Neit Macrae and his pretty dental hygenist. Wendy; BCTV account zxes Amaey Amery, who worked for years as Roy’s personal assis- tant; CFUN'’s Nancy Neil who was chic in deep blue; former tadio host and U-TV's open-liner Pat Burns and big Gordie Webster and his very best gal, Gary! This was one of Gary's first social outings from G.F. Strong Rehab Centre following her long ilness. She iooks great and she's feeling so much stronger. My spies report that following the first dance by Wendy and Sergio, the next couple on the floor was Gor- die and Gary. One of the truly heart-rugging Moments at the wedding, though, on Saturday afternoon, was the sight of Roy Lisogar, walking together with his daughter down the aisle of the church to the strains of the traditional wedding march. Two and a half years ago, Roy was so ill that there was some doubt about his recovery. Yet here he was, the happiest and proudest father of the bride! Everyone had their hankies out! Wendy and Sergio have now left on a sun and golfing vacation to Bermuda and the West Indies before heading to see Mickey Mouse in Disneyland. Gale and Rick Honey were just back in time to attend the wed- ding following a 16-day, first-ever vacation trip to England and Paris. And the name-dropping stories they’ve brought back with them are marvellous! They were sipping tea in an outdoor cafe in London, right across the street from the Savoy, when there was a great ruckus as dozens and dozens of Rolls- Royces began arriving at the fam- ed hotel. Seems they were sipping tea just as Princess Diana began celebrating her 30th birthday with a very ritzy party! And they found themselves walking side-by-side with the not- too-ritzy singer, Sinead O’Connor. Proving what a small world it really is. they were shopping in the renowned Harrod's depart- ment store when they bumped into Eleni and Nelson Skalbania, who were scarching for the perfect graduation present for Eleni’s daughter. Walking on the Champs Elysees and boating on the Seine, they did it all. And they can’t wait to do it again... [t wasn’t easy but that gutsy lady, Gertie Todd, did pull off her 40th annual Miss North Shore Pageant, despite the smaller number of contestants and the last-minute pull-out of her veteran emcee, Mare Howard. Marc had emceed Gertie’s first beauty contest 40 years ago and had hosted another 30 of them over the years. He was looking forward to reprising his role but unfortunately came down with the flu on the big day. His hosting replacement was Nigel Williams, a director of the pageant. MISS NORTH Shore is Sabrina Deneumoustier, also voted Miss Personality. The happy news is that the White Spot’s Sabrina Deneumoustier won the prize as Miss North Shore for 1991 while her runner-up Princess was the North Shore Auto Family’s Ginny Pereira. It doesn’t happen that often but the winning Sabrina was also chosen as this year’s Miss Personality. Congratulations! ... Cheers!
