DISTRICT COUNCIL

WEST VANCOUVER District
Council has approved the reloca-
tion of the future rectory planned
for the new Roman Catholic
Church on Keith Road.

The priest’s residence will be
located 30 feet west of the original
site planned for it to give it a
more residential setting from the
street and provide more privacy
for outdoor living.

The changes resulted in a new
layout of the church's parking so
that the same number of parking
stalls would be maintained.

As part of their approval of the
development variance permit. re-
quired, council called Monday
night for a landscape plan and
‘some assurance that it will be
adhered to’’ as suggested by Ald.
Pat Boname.

Neighborhood concerns have
been raised over the removal of a
stand of mature conifers that
helped screen the church.

Ald. Andy Danyliu said the
trees had been removed because
they were diseased and could have
posed a hazard.

The church, he said, would be
required to replant and landscape
the site to its original beauty.

A neighbor had been upset
because the church had recently
brought in some fill next to his
property to shore up soil that was
slipping away from the cement
slab supporting the church.

The archdiocese has been occu-
pying the church site without a
building permit which was
withheld by the municipality pen-
ding completion of the terms of
the landcaping plan.
