Ingeborg Von Schiack, 54, died after she was struck by a car in the 1900-block of Mgrine. She had bcen walking on the sidewalk. The vehicle went on to crash into a gas pump at a nearby gas station. Supreme Court to set a trial date for possession of restricted weapons charges. Taras Filonov, 24, was ordered to stand trial following a recent preliminary hearing in West Vancouver provin- cial court. He is charged with being in possession of an Uzi machine gun and a .22 semi-automatic rifle in connection with a September, 1989 incident in West Vancouver. Filonev was originally arrested along with 10 other Lower Mainland residents in connection with seizure of cocaine wozth an estimated $9 million, luxury vehicles and guns. Filonov is the younger brother of Sergey Filonov, a man shot to death last year in Vancouver. Two youths arrested in West Van auto theft TWO PORT Coquitlam youths face charges of theft over $1,000 following the theft of a vehicle that had been parked at the Gleneagles golf course on April 13. According to a West Vancouver Police spokesman, two vehicles were damaged after suspects attempted to steal them at about 5:30 a.m. A third vehicle, a 1972 Datsun 240-Z, was laicr stopped by police on Bay Street in Horseshoe Bay. Charged are 18-year-old Robert John O'Toole and 18-year-old William James Mutch. THE PROVINCIAL ministries of transportation and lands and parks will hold two public open nouses this week to show plans for a new $3.6-million emergency mooring facility and park enhancement program at Porteau Cove Marine Park near Squamish. The first open house, set for today (May 1), will be held at the Highlander Hotel in Squamish; a May 2 open house will be held at West Vancouver Secondary School, 1750 Mathers Ave. Both open houses will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. A formal pres- entation and question period on the Porteau Cove project is set for 7:30 p.m. The transportation and high- ways ministry will also present in- formation on its new five-year Highway 99 Slope Stabilization program. Phase one of the $3.5- million project is now under way at Brunswick Point, 20 kilometres north of Horseshoe Bay. The se- cond phase will be done this fall at Porteau Bluffs. The Porteau Cove emergency mooring facility and the Slope Stabilization Program are key components of the highways ministry’s plan to maintain the vital transportation link between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish. The Porteau Cove park enhancement program is designed to improve recreational facilities for park visitors.
